BALTIMORE, MD – OCTOBER 18, 2011, Artist Robert McClintock and the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) have joined together to present the first-ever “COMMIT TO A PIT” fundraising event, which will be held at the Robert McClintock Studio & Gallery in Fell’s Point.  This weekend-long event will begin with a Kick-Off party on Friday, November 4, 2011 with light refreshments being served from 7:00PM – 10:00PM.  The event will wrap up on Sunday, November 6, 2011.  The highlight of the event will be a month-long silent auction featuring a Commissioned Pet Portrait by Robert with the highest bidder being announced on Sunday, December 4, 2011 (valued at  $1800.00).   Also, there will be an unveiling of the most recent additions to Robert’s well-known “Dogs That I Know” collection featuring his “Commit To A Pit” series.  A portion of the proceeds raised will directly benefit the BARCS Pit Crew program.

BARCS Pit Crew is an exciting program that started through a partnership with Best Friends Animal Society (Best Friends is working not only in Baltimore but also throughout the country to help Pit Bull Terriers, who are battling everything from a media-driven bad reputation to ineffective and expensive breed-discriminatory legislation.  Best Friends hopes to end discrimination against all dogs) and PETsMART Charities on January 1, 2011. The Pit Crew is a group of dedicated volunteers who work to get more Pit Bull type dogs (Bulls and Pit mixes) rescued, fostered and ultimately adopted.  Pit Crew also provides training for these dogs and their families and works to improve the public image of the breed.  BARCS recently received the devastating news that PETsMART Charities will not be funding the program for a second year.  BARCS, which averages over 90% Pit Bull type dogs, desperately needs to keep the Pit Crew going!  They are working diligently to raise funds to keep the Pit Crew at BARCS indefinitely through events and asking for much needed help from the community.  They will not give up on their mission of providing “America’s Dog” a voice and they will keep working until Pit Bull type dogs are treated well, valued and loved just like any other dog.

Robert McClintock, a well-known local artist, has long been sympathetic to the plight of the Pit Bull.  A few years ago, he and his wife Sue, also a Pit Bull advocate rescued a neglected and starving dog, now named Super Lou.  Super Lou is famous in Fell’s Point and so are his portraits, which adorn the Robert McClintock Studio & Gallery walls.  Back in 2005, Robert worked with PETsMART Charities and raised almost $2 million dollars to save homeless pets.  He donated an original painting “Tess and Isabelle” to be used in connection with this special charity event.

Robert’s colorful, hybrid art combining photography and free hand digital painting has gathered national and international acclaim.  His popular collection of over 300 images titled “Baltimore Seen” spotlights representative landmarks, monuments, neighborhoods, and the well-loved restaurants and bars of greater Baltimore.  Also popular with fans and collectors are his appealing images of dogs and cats from his “Dogs That I Know” and “My Cats Are Cool” series, which is available nationally in TARGET.  McClintock’s collection of dogs features over 100 unique images.

William Donald Schaefer -1921-2011

Back in 2006 I had an audience with the great Willie Don Schaefer in his comptroller office in Annapolis…A distant cousin of his set it up, I had an idea for a picture which included his famous poster in his tank suit, he very willingly gave me his time…We spent almost an hour together and I shot about 100 pictures and came up with these two which i painted …He told me the story of how at the opening of the National Aquarium he stole the show, walking into the seal tank in his straw hat. He sat at his desk and gave me his serious pose, which cracked us up.

He said, the movie “McLINTOCK” starring John Wayne was one of the best westerns ever made because Maureen O’Hara was one of the “best looking broads in pictures”…

I agreed.

William Donald Schaefer, four-term Mayor of Baltimore City and two-term Governor of Maryland, died Monday, April 19, 2011.

Finally after an unexplained 2 years of not being accepted McCLINTOCK returns to ARTSCAPE 2010 … Rumor has it that he had been applying to the wrong category of art…Since there’s no photo/digital hybrid category he was not accepted as a painter or a photographer. Whatever…

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Robert’s “HOTEL CHELSEA” accepted as a finalist in the international competition at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Among this years show judges were Pop Artist Peter Max and Macintosh Co-founder Steve Wozniak. The artworks was shown as part of the Macworld Expo 2009 Gallery

This is the third time Robert’s work has been accepted in this show.

McClintock vows to re-apply in 2009 to Artscape which is “Baltimore’s Largest Art show featuring talented LOCAL artists.”

Baltimore, Maryland (April 15, 2006)—Baltimore based artist and digital photographer Robert McClintock’s hybrid digital photo paintings were recently added to the The Photographic History Collection (PHC) at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, which is the first collection of photography at any U.S. museum. According to Smithsonian curators, McClintock’s work represents an aspect of digital photography not previously collected by the Smithsonian- that of a gallery owner/photographer making a living both as a commercial and fine art photographer.

Among the collection are over 200,000 images representing the work of over 4,000 photographers and 12,000 pieces of equipment and photographic apparatus. The PHC collects images and objects representing the art, science, and technology of the photographic process. Curators from the PCH selected four of McClintock’s Baltimore and Washington DC images. The museum has stepped up its collection of digital images, and the digital photo process after it was inundated with digital photographs from 9/11.

McClintock recently relocated his long established studio/gallery to an expanded waterfront location in historic Fells Point at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The artist is well known for his vibrant and captivating images of Baltimore’s historic monuments, landmarks, eclectic neighborhoods and well-loved bars of greater Baltimore represented in his popular collection, “Baltimore Seen”. “It’s a great honor for my artwork to be recognized by my peers.”, McClintock said.  This isn’t the first time McClintock’s work has been honored at the Macworld Expo. His well known “JUAN’S BAD DOG” was picked as a finalist in the 2003 Macworld Digtital Gallery.

Some of his earlier pieces are on display at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography and Boston’s Photographic Resource Center.  Robert’s innovative style is a hybrid medium combining photography and digital painting. No stock Photoshop filters are used, instead he paints and colors directly onto his original photos in Adobe Photoshop. The result is a unique piece of art saturated with color and personality.
