McCLINTOCK REJECTED at 2009 ARTSCAPE… Jury Counts Him Out Again

The 2009 Artscape Artist Market Jury has once again rejected artist Robert McClintock after nine solid years as an Artist Market participant. McClintock who’s large body of work portraying the iconic and well known scenes of Baltimore says, “I guess my work just doesn’t have what it takes anymore to be in the largest free public arts festival in the country featuring 150+ artists”. McClintock was also rejected in 2008.

McClintock understands it’s “juried” show but feels very left out, he questions the Baltimore Office of Promotions (BOP) “policy” that local Baltimore artists are routinely left out while out of state artists are encouraged to apply. This seems to fly in the face of a Baltimore City funded and BOP supported program called “BUY LOCAL”, which obviously encourages shoppers to keep their purchases in Baltimore and Maryland.

Jurors give each artist a score (from 1–5) based on their 5 submitted images.  Each artist is listed on the score sheet by an ID number, no names are revealed. This year’s panel of jurors were Paula Rome (jewelry), Carlous Palmer (fashion), Joyce Scott (mixed media) and Daniel Sullivan (mixed media).

“It’s unfortunate that I am not accepted once again, especially since my work promotes Baltimore in it’s best light. I’ve worked very hard to establish myself here and I was able to do that by appearing yearly at Artscape. Perhaps I’ve outgown this festival (at least with the jurors), and after all it’s on the hottest weekend of the year.”
